950 platinum
Josephine Leroy works with 950 platinum for his jewellery.
Platinum is more rare than any other precious metal. Platinum is usually offered in the alloy 950. This consists of 95% platinum and 5% of a metal admixture and is particularly hard and resistant. Due to its exceptional toughness, there is virtually no abrasion on the jewellery - the material merely shifts sideways. Moreover, hardly any other material can hold stones as securely as platinum.
Description
We only use natural gemstones which are cut to size in a complex process and sorted by hand in a multi-stage selection process.
After the first multiple sorting, the stones are cut and polished into a brilliant shape, then they are sorted again according to size, colour and purity.
In order to build the stones into a circle, 18 stones must be found that differ as little as possible in appearance. This requires a very well trained eye, which can detect the finest differences.
When the stones are arranged for a circle, they are carefully placed in the setting by hand and fixed like a diamond.
As a rule, a maximum of 1% of the respective raw stone can be used for our noble objects. To achieve the highest possible quality, all work is done by hand and by experienced specialists.
As few foreign inclusions as possible and a striking colour are the characteristics that meet our quality standards.
The typical colour of an aquamarine very pale blue transparent. It is available in all shades.
Aquamarine refers to beryl, which is light blue, light blue-green or even light green. It is usually clear, but the iron content gives it its blue/green colour. The green of aquamarine is an aqueous green without traces of yellow. In the past the most valuable aquamarine stones were green. Today, however, the most valuable aquamarine stones are a rich, sky-blue, but the blue stones also have a green or blue-green hue. Depending on which angle you look at an aquamarine, it can appear blue, green or colourless. This is called the pleachroic effect. A varied exhibition of aquamarines is like seeing the many colours of oceans, lakes and other waters around the world. Each aquamarine reminds you of a shade of some water you have enjoyed. Almost all aquamarines on the market have been heat treated to enhance the colour. In line with consumer preference for aquamarines in deep blue, the stones are heated to 800 degrees Celsius, which causes the blue colour to appear and the yellow/green tones to disappear. The light shade of aquamarine flatters all skin colours and harmonises with all precious metals.
Many aquamarine stones are practically free of inclusions and their lustre is glassy. Aquamarine is often found in cavities, granite pegmatite, alluvial deposits of gravel and sometimes stream gravel. Beryl crystals in some pegmatites grow to very large sizes, even up to 30 feet. Aquamarine crystals of up to 3 feet are actually not uncommon. The best quality stones come from Brazil, where crystals weighing several kilos have been found. Other places where aquamarine is found are the Soviet Union, Madagascar (where a dark blue variety is found), the United States, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and the USA.
