950 platinum
Josephine Leroy works with 950 platinum for his jewellery.
Platinum is more rare than any other precious metal. Platinum is usually offered in the alloy 950. This consists of 95% platinum and 5% of a metal admixture and is particularly hard and resistant. Due to its exceptional toughness, there is virtually no abrasion on the jewellery - the material merely shifts sideways. Moreover, hardly any other material can hold stones as securely as platinum.
Description
We only use natural gemstones which are cut to size in a complex process and sorted by hand in a multi-stage selection process.
After the first multiple sorting, the stones are cut and polished into a brilliant shape, then they are sorted again according to size, colour and purity.
In order to build the stones into a circle, 18 stones must be found that differ as little as possible in appearance. This requires a very well trained eye, which can detect the finest differences.
When the stones are arranged for a circle, they are carefully placed in the setting by hand and fixed like a diamond.
As a rule, a maximum of 1% of the respective raw stone can be used for our noble objects. To achieve the highest possible quality, all work is done by hand and by experienced specialists.
As few foreign inclusions as possible and a striking colour are the characteristics that meet our quality standards. () The typical colour is a blue violet transparent. It is available in all shades.
The sapphire is a corundum, an aluminium oxide with a trigonal crystal structure, in the same family as the ruby. The only difference between a ruby and a sapphire is simply the colour. A red corundum is a ruby. Other coloured corundums are known as sapphires, which are available in many colours, the most common being blue. Because sapphires are available in so many colours, they are the most important and versatile of all precious stones. Due to their hardness, rubies and sapphires are considered to be valued just below the level of diamonds. Diamonds are listed as ten in terms of hardness, sapphires as nine. The hardness characteristic of sapphire makes it the perfect choice for jewellery that has to withstand everyday wear, such as rings or bracelets. The inclusions of the gemstone reflect light, giving it a faint sheen known as "silk". The most transparent, colourless variety of sapphire is known as "leucosaphire". Some have stripes of light colour inside, others have this slightly silky sheen and in strong light their colour intensifies. Sapphires are usually cut into round or oval shapes, but rectangular or square cuts are also possible.
