950 platinum

Josephine Leroy works with 950 platinum for his jewellery.

Platinum is more rare than any other precious metal. Platinum is usually offered in the alloy 950. This consists of 95% platinum and 5% of a metal admixture and is particularly hard and resistant. Due to its exceptional toughness, there is virtually no abrasion on the jewellery - the material merely shifts sideways. Moreover, hardly any other material can hold stones as securely as platinum.

Description

We only use natural gemstones which are cut to size in a complex process and sorted by hand in a multi-stage selection process.

After the first multiple sorting, the stones are cut and polished into a brilliant shape, then they are sorted again according to size, colour and purity.

In order to build the stones into a circle, 18 stones must be found that differ as little as possible in appearance. This requires a very well trained eye, which can detect the finest differences.

When the stones are arranged for a circle, they are carefully placed in the setting by hand and fixed like a diamond.

As a rule, a maximum of 1% of the respective raw stone can be used for our noble objects. To achieve the highest possible quality, all work is done by hand and by experienced specialists.

As few foreign inclusions as possible and a striking colour are the characteristics that meet our quality standards.

The typical colour is a red violet transparent. It is available in all shades.

Ruby is extremely rare and one of nature's most valuable gemstones. It offers a breathtaking colour ranging from brownish-red to light red similar to ripe raspberries, an excellent hardness after a diamond and an irresistible brilliance. The colour of the ruby is accompanied by a pronounced fluorescence, which is stimulated by natural and artificial light, making rubies brighter red under this light. The colour is the most important attribute of the ruby, while its transparency is secondary. It is almost impossible to find a finer quality ruby over 3 carats, so small inclusions are considered acceptable and most ruby jewellery is made from stones under 3 carats. In fact, inclusions in a ruby are like fingerprints that prove its authenticity and reveal the beauty and individuality of each stone. Traditionally, India was considered the source of all rubies, as an overwhelming collection of literature over two thousand years proves. The highest quality rubies, the most transparent with the best colour, usually come from Burma and can indeed be as valuable as diamonds, or even more so. Rubies are actually very closely related to sapphires, both of which belong to the corundum family. They are both made of the same mineral, but are of course differently coloured. The ruby is slightly softer than the sapphire, which may seem strange as they are both made of the same mineral, but nature never makes every jewel in a mineral family the same.
